Glendale Memorial Cemetery
Glendale Community
Trinity County, Texas

The cemetery is located one mile north of State Highway 94 on Glendale Cemetery Road, 6 miles NE of Trinity, Texas and about 13 miles SW of Groveton, Texas.

Glendale, Texas was founded in the 1880s by an orchard company and settled by northern colonists as a religious and educational center. Edward Penfield of Illinois laid out the town site of Glendale and sold land to James W. S. Rupe, Oliver Tate, C. F. Bates, and Eugene Norfleet. Several of the colonists went back north, but some of the original colonists, such as the C. F. Bates family, the Oliver Tate family, Covy Rupe, W. S. Rupe, and the Eugene Norfleet family remained and are buried in the Glendale Cemetery.

The original rocks placed at the head and foot of the graves have been replaced with flush concrete markers with names and dates, when the information was available. A survey and map of Glendale Cemetery was made and donated by Noble J. Campbell, Public Surveyor. The map is filed in Plat Cabinet A at the Office of the County Clerk, Trinity County Courthouse on 27 April 1989 and updated 2 September 1990. This survey identified unmarked gravesites, which now have concrete markers placed, without names. The latter were probably originally marked with wooden crosses.

For the compiled list, both Trinity County Cemeteries ©1980 and the second edition Trinity County Texas Cemeteries © 1992 both published by Trinity County Historical Commission (TCHC) were consulted and integrated with a listing supplied by the Glendale Cemetery Association.  Bracketed items are either observed double headstones or verbally "found" information about the person.  You may contact the cemetery association through Trinity County Historical Commission Museum at our P.O. Box 123, Groveton, TX 75845, if you have any corrections, questions or information to add to this listing.  We have a listing of all landowners and cemetery association contacts.

Because of the large size of this cemetery file, it has been split into three separate web pages.

This page has last names A through G
