Postal Service

The first Post Office in what became Rockwall County was begun on 22 Jun 1848 in what was then Henderson County. It was called "Trinity", but on 11 Jul 1848 the name was changed to "Forks of the Trinity".

The name of the Post Office was changed again to "Black Hill" on 25 Oct 1848, and although John Oswell Heath applied for the Post Office, and received it, he was not the first Post Master. That distinguished position was given to Nathan Bearslee, who was appointed Postmaster at Trinity on 22 Jun 1848, re-appointed at Forks of the Trinity 11 Jul 1848, and re-appointed to Black Hill on 25 Oct 1848. John O. Heath followed Beardslee, appointed Post Master at Black Hill on 9 Apr 1849, when the place was in Kaufman County.
