ALEXANDER, Mildred 

CARTHAGE — Services for Mildred Alexander, 73, of Burleson, formerly of Carthage, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, 01-09 at Lipsey Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Stricklin officiating. Burial will be in Carter Cemetery. Miss Alexander, a member of First United Methodist Church, died Saturday, 01-05. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today, 01-08 at the funeral home.

She was born Oct. 3, 1917, in Columbus, Ga. The 40-year resident of Longview was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, a homemaker and a longtime employee of Hurwitz in Longview.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Betty Hancock of Longview; three grandchildren; a sister, Betty Arnold of Columbus, Ga.; and a brother, Jack Moore, also of Columbus, Ga.

ALLISON, Rev. Daniel

Funeral services for Rev. Daniel Allison were held January 18, 2002 at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Henderson.  The Rev. Carolyn Sims officiated.

Rev. Allison was born to the late Caleb and Rebecca Smith Allison on May 16, 1916.  He united in holy matrimony to the late Cora Mae Chatham Allison.  They were in love with each other for over 50 years.  To this union five girls and one son was born.

Rev. Allison retired from Donnell Saw Mill after 40 plus years of employment.  Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death, Vera Lee Allison of Tatum, Sally Mae Allison Simpson and Precious Allison Gray, John Richard Allison, all of Carthage.  Another brother Haston Dock Allison died three days after receiving the news of Daniel’s death.  Services for Haston Dock Allison were held Friday, January 25, 2002 in Saginaw, Michigan.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: daughters Margie Bell of Palm Springs CA, Doris Calhoun of Carthage, Irma Champion of Gary, Margarett Tucker and Elizabeth Jones both of Carthage; and one son, the late Milton Lee Allison of Carthage;  17 grandchildren (two preceded him in death, L.D. Taylor, Jr. and Phyllis Ann Taylor Montgomery both of Banning CA), 34 great-grandchildren (one great-grandchild preceded him in death Ramon Montgomery of Banning CA) and three great-great grandchildren; two good friends Paul Reese and K.T. Talley of Carthage; and a host of nieces and nephews.

After Cora’s death, Rev. Allison would steal away with his children and grandchildren and reminisce on the good times he and Cora shared together.

Daddy Mamma, Granddaddy, Grandmother, your sweet memories will forever linger in the hearts and minds of your children.  Thanks to the many friends who shared their love during our time of sorrow.

CARTHAGE — Services for Bettie Sue Robinson Armstrong, 64, of Carthage are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Lipsey Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Leon Veazey officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in the Snap community. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today, January 11, 2002 at the funeral home. Mrs. Armstrong, a licensed vocational nurse, died Thursday, January 10, 2002.

BALLARD, Connie Faye

Funeral services for Connie Faye Ballard, 60, of Deadwood were held January 26, 2002 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Deadwood.  The Rev. Glenn Hood officiated.  Burial followed in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Black’s Carthage Funeral Home.

Born September 8, 1941, she was the daughter of Woodrow and Corrie Lee Fulgham.

Survivors include her sons, Jerry and Tarus Ballard of Houston; sisters Lou Velma Hall and Margie Washington of Deberry, Bertha Macon and Eunice Fay Cridell of Texarkana; step-sister Vada Champion of Gary and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, special friends and neighbors.

Pallbearers were Ezell Washington, Danny Jo Walton, J. Junell Cridell, Jerry Macon, Sammy Hall and Gary Washington.

BLANKENSHIP, Beverly

HENDERSON — Services for Beverly Blankenship of Timmonsville, S.C., formerly of Tatum, are set for 2 p.m. today, Jan. 29, 2002 at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Tatum Cemetery will follow. Mrs. Blankenship died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002. She was born in 1946 in Dallas. Survivors include five children, 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

DICKERSON, Albert Thomas 

CARTHAGE — Services for Albert Thomas Dickerson, 73, of the Deadwood community will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Deadwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mervin Scott, the Rev. Harold Gunstanson and the Rev. Ronnie Luman officiating. Interment will be in Deadwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Dickerson died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, in Shreveport.

Albert Thomas “Tom” Dickerson was born July 19, 1928, in Deadwood to William Albert “Willbuck” and Tommie Briggs Dickerson. Tom attended Deadwood schools, graduated with the first graduating class from Panola Junior College, then graduated from Centenary College with a bachelor of science degree in geology. Tom served his country with the U.S. Navy. On June 7, 1950, he wed Temple Mae LaGrone. They celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage before her death in 1999. Tom and Temple became active members of the Deadwood community. He was employed as a geologist for Phillips Petroleum for 23 years and retired as exploration manager from Franks Petroleum Co.

Tom Dickerson was the fire chief of the Flatwood Fire Department for 10 years. He founded the Deadwood Water Board, where he served as their first president and continued to serve for 10 years. In the late 1970s, he was named Hunter of the Year by Sutton County, where he enjoyed deer hunting for 30 years.

Thomas was a member of the American Geological Society and had served as an election judge and reserve deputy with the Panola County Sheriff’s Department. He also served as an ambassador for the Panola County Chamber of Commerce.

For more than 30 years, Tom was a member of the Deadwood United Methodist Church, where he loved singing with the choir.

Thomas was well-loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Dickerson was preceded in death by three sisters, Ulah Bea Farmer, Jane Luman and Dorothy Luman, and one brother, John Dickerson.

Survivors include a son, Jeff Dickerson and his wife, Heather, of Deadwood; a daughter, Donna Dickerson Rowe of Waco; his mother-in-law, Zona Mae LaGrone; two brothers, Lawrence Rodney Dickerson and his wife, Rosa Lee, of Deadwood and Boyce Brown and his wife, Shirley, of Waskom; two sisters, Willie Mae Rinkle and her husband, Neal, of Carthage and Lorraine Godwin and her husband, Glen, of Deadwood; two brothers-in-law, Joe Ben LaGrone and his wife, Peggy, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Troy H. LaGrone and Sarah of Denton; his grandchildren, Sarah Isbell and her husband, Michael, of Deadwood, Danny Dickerson and his wife, Blanca, of Houston, Laura Dickerson of Deadwood and Michael Dee Rowe of Waco; two great-grandchildren, Macy Kathryn Isbell and Madison Emily Isbell; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Michael Dee Rowe, Charles “Brick” Dickerson, Michael Isbell, Ronnie Ebarb, Mike Ebarb, Jack Elliott and Jerry Coxen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Martin, Steve Pittman, Mason Dickerson and Edward Yarborough.

Viewing at the funeral home is today, Jan. 3. Visitation with the family was 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, and will be 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 3.

DORMAN, Opal Rhiddlehoover

CARTHAGE — Services for Opal Rhiddlehoover Dorman, 87, of Carthage will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 25, 2002 at Southside Baptist Church with Dr. David Holder and the Rev. Bruce Will officiating. Burial in Antioch Cemetery will be directed by Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Dorman had taught Sunday school at Southside Baptist Church, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002.

Funeral services of Opal Rhiddlehoover Dorman, 87, of Carthage, were held January 25, 2002 at Southside Baptist Church.  Dr. David Holder and the Rev. Bruce Will officiated.  Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home.  She died January 23, 2002 in Carthage.

Born October 4, 1914 in Panola County, she was the daughter of Willis Blackburn and Cornelia Ellen McDaniel Rhiddlehoover.  She completed Alsup schools and wed Add Dorman on December 16, 1933.  They celebrated 51 years of marriage before his death in 1984.  She was employed at Whites Home and Auto and received the Employee of the Year award in 1973.  She had been a member of Southside Baptist Church since 1950 where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Mary Sunday School Class and played the piano.  She was preceded in death by a son Weldon Dorman; brothers J.B., Reagan, Roy, Fonnie, Billy and Murry Rhiddlehoover and sisters Ethel Rhiddlehoover McPherson, Vesta Rhiddlehoover Howell and Dee Alma Rhiddlehoover Bridwell.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law Fred Allen and Dorothy Dorman of Canton, Richard Blackburn Dorman of Longview, James Larry and Mickey Dorman of Beckville and Jerry Don and Pat Dorman of Carthage; daughter and son-in-law Sue Dorman and Oliver Graves of Huffman and daughter-in-law Susie Fields Dorman of Carthage.

Also surviving Dorman is her sister Alice Rhiddlehoover Chamness of Carthage; sisters in law Helen Rhiddlehoover, Edith Wooten and Iva Lou Swanson all of Carthage; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; special friends, the staff of Briarcliff Nursing Home and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Joe Ben Wooten, Howard Rhiddlehoover, Rick McPherson, James Richard Chamness, Dennis Chamness and Clyde Chamness.  Honorary pallbearers were her nephews.

Funeral services fo JaLeena Sarae Hamilton, age 4, and JaLeesa Mona Smith, age 2, of Gary were held January 28, 2002 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in the Woods Post Office Community.

The Rev. Michael Darden offciated.  Arrangements were under the direction of Black's Carthage Funeral Home.  The girls died January 22, 2002 at their home.

JaLeena was born Jan. 20, 1998 in Palestine and was the daughter of LaRena Brown Smith and Charles Hamilton.  She attended Carthage Primary School.

JaLeesa was born August 15, 2000 in Marshall and was the daughter of LaRena Brown Smith and Albert Smith.

Survivors include their parents, LeRena Brown Smith of Carthage, Charles Hamilton of Center and Albert Smith of Center; three brothers Joshua Hamilton of Carthage, Charles Hamilton, Jr. of Lufkin and Tyrese Smith of Center; sisters JoshLynn Hamilton and Alberta Smith of Carthage, Sharonda and Annette Hamilton of Lufkin and Aleix Smith of Center; grandmothers Lizzie M. Calloway-Brown of Gary and Betsy Jackson of Center; grandfather Johnny Penson of Galveston and great-grarndmother Sallie Bryant Caoolway of Gary.

Also surviving the girls are their uncles Jesse Brown, Jr. of New Orlenad, Ernest A. Brown of Tucson, Arizona, Curtis, Mack and Jesse Ray Hamilton all of Center; Ivan Hamilton of Beaumont and Mackauthur Hamilton of Garrison; aunts Lona J. JACKSON, Joseph Earl

LINDALE — Joseph Earl Jackson, 82, a longtime lawyer in Carthage, died at his home Sunday morning, Jan. 27, 2002, after a year-long battle with cancer. Mr. Jackson was born in Smith County in 1919, the only son of James Olan and Belle Kay Jackson.

He graduated from Tyler High School, attended Tyler Junior College and received his law degree from the University of Texas Law School in Austin.

He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and continued on active duty through the Korean War before joining the law firm of Long & Strong in Carthage in 1953. He continued his law practice there until December 2001. He remained active in the Naval Reserve until 1979, attaining the rank of captain, U.S. Navy-Retired. In 1993, the State Bar of Texas recognized him for 50 years of the practice of law in Texas.

In 1943, he married the former Jon Beth Shelton of Tyler, who preceded him in death in 1995. They are survived by one daughter, Lynnell Jackson Burkett and her husband, David Y. Burkett, of San Antonio.

In 1996, he married Helen Ramsey, who survives him. He also is survived by two stepsons, Dennis Ramsey and his wife, Geneva, of Austin and Kenneth Ramsey and his wife, Judy, of El Paso, as well as by three stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Visitation was 6-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the family home in Carthage. After a private burial in Hopewell Cemetery near Lindale today, Jan. 29, his life will be celebrated at a memorial service at 2 p.m. today at First Methodist Church in Carthage. A reception will follow in the church parlor. Arrangements are by Caudle Rutledge Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Longview or a church of choice.

CARTHAGE — Freda Imogene James, 60, of Gary died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002 in Tyler. She was born Feb. 15, 1941, in French Camp, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold James. Survivors include two sons, Arnold James and Richard James, and a daughter, Lori Teakell. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home.

Hawthorn Funeral Home announced the cremation for Freda Imogene James, 60, or Gary.  She died January 28, 2002 in Tyler.

Born February 15, 1941 in French Camp CA she was the daughter of Jesse James and Mamie Fish Whiteside.  She attended school in French Camp and married Harold Keith James.  They celebrated nearly 20 years of marriage before his death.  She had lived in Carthage since 1989 and been employed as a dietary aide at a hospital in California for ten years.

Since moving to Carthage she had been employed in the shoe department at WalMart.  She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary #5620 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  She enjoyed crocheting and loved to play Scrabble.

Survivors include her mother Mamie Whiteside of Manteca CA; sons Arnold Boatman of Gary and Richard Boatman od Stockton CA; daughter and son-in-law Lori and Grady Teakell of Manteca; brother Ron Whiteside of Manteca and grandchildren Lacey Boatman, Katy, Ashley and Jeremy Chamber all of Manteca.

JOHNSON, Alma R.H.

Black's Carthage Funeral Home announces services for Alma "Maria" Ree Harris Johnson, 62, of Marshall.  Services were held February 2, 2002 at Pine Bluff Church in Marshall.  The Rev. Michael Black officiated.  She died January 28, 2002.

Born January 22, 1940, she was the youngest of three children born to the late Ernest and Martha Harris.  She attended Marshall public schools where she specialized in cosmetology.  Her early Christian training was done in Pine Bluff Baptist Church.  She later moved to Dallas where she made many friends.

Survivors include her newphew, Harold Lovely; many close cousins and a host of friends.

Active pallbearers were her friends and family.

Honorary pallbearers were Asa Durley, Vernon C. May, John L. May, Herbert L. Moore, Sr., Herbert L. Moore, Jr., Jemmell Sherman, Lorenza "Jelani" Williams, Jr. and Wendell Yancy.

KERSH, Ella Mae

CARTHAGE — Services for Ella Mae Kersh, 91, of Clayton will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 19, 2002, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Stone and the Rev. T.A. Crow officiating. Interment will follow in Clayton Cemetery. Mrs. Kersh died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in Longview.

Mrs. Ella Mae Kersh was born April 9, 1910, in Clayton to Garry Richard and Ella Prior Reed. She attended public school in Clayton and Carthage and then Stephen F. Austin State College, as it was known when she was a student there. Ella wed James Clayton Kersh of Gary on July 26, 1932, and together they celebrated 40 years of marriage before his death in 1972. Mrs. Kersh was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Clayton, and before her death she was the oldest member of that church. She worked for a time in the Baker Koonce Cafeteria.

Mrs. Kersh was always very interested in her family, both immediate and extended, and was extremely proud that her great-great-grandfather, Isaac Reed, established the first Baptist church in Texas, the Old North Church, outside of Nacogdoches. He also established the Bethel Baptist Church in Clayton. She was proud that her parents and grandparents were charter members of the First Baptist Church in Clayton. She related many interesting stories of her Reed and her Prior ancestors. Mrs. Kersh enjoyed sewing, cooking and working with her flowers. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Marilyn; a brother, Robert Wilson Reed; four sisters, Mary Lucille Reed, Melissa Ruth Reed, Lou Willard Ross, and Jeanette Harrell Taylor; and two sisters-in-law, Katie Mae Gray Reed and Edna Kersh Maddox.

Mrs. Kersh is survived by devoted son James Rex Kersh of Clayton; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Victoria Kersh Duke of Carthage and Mrs. Madie Lou Graves Kersh Jimerson of Houston; three nephews, Mr. Richard G. Reed of Clayton, Mr. Jerry G. Kersh of Houston and Mr. Charles Duke of White Oak; five nieces, Mrs. Robbie Lynn Reed Marshall of Alvin, Mrs. Sarah Reed Harris of Long Branch, Mrs. Wendell Bowen of Pasadena, Mrs. Robert L. Davis of Carthage and Mrs. John Conway, also of Carthage; two cousins, Mrs. Annelle Smith of Spring and Mrs. Louise Boren of Henderson; many great- and great-great-nieces and great- and great-great-nephews; and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Jerry G. Kersh, Charles Duke, John Conway, Robert L. Davis, Rob Davis, Terry Bowen and Rodgers Kilgore. Honorary pallbearers will be John Conway Jr., Kevin Kilgore, J.R. Duke and Sidney Williamson.

The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home.

The family suggests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Clayton.

CARTHAGE — Graveside services for Aril L. Knott, 88, of Plano, formerly of Panola County, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 in Waldrop Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Knott died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002 in Plano. She was born Dec. 13, 1913, in the Fairplay community. She was a member of Lancaster Baptist Church.

LEDBETTER, Terrie

ABILENE — Memorial services for Terrie Ledbetter of Abilene, formerly of Longview, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Summerfield United Methodist Church in Longview with Dr. William Couvillion officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in the Summerfield Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 28, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 S. in Abilene. Mrs. Ledbetter died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at 1:35 a.m. in Abilene Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Ledbetter was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Amarillo. She was the youngest of two daughters born to Leona Booth McDuffie and Horace Guy McDuffie of Mountain View, Okla. Mrs. Ledbetter owned and operated Ledbetter Court Searches in Abilene until her recent illness. She also owned and operated Ledbetter Court Searches in Longview for a number of years before to moving to Abilene in 1999. Mrs. Ledbetter was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and was a membership relations director for the Longview Chamber of Commerce for several years.

Survivors include her husband, Walt Ledbetter of Abilene; one son, Brandon M. Shepperd of Beckville; three stepdaughters, Paula Phillips of Summerville, Fla., Eva Wegmann of Houston and Dianna Kizer of Daingerfield; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a very special niece, Elaine “Susie” Byrd of Snyder.

MATTHEWS, Ray K.

HENDERSON — Graveside services for Ray K. Matthews, 92, of Tatum will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, in Tatum Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Nichols, the Rev. Wayne Dickerson and the Rev. Leo Bailey officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. Mr. Matthews died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Tatum.

He was born Jan. 25, 1910, in Rusk County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tatum and was a retired Rusk County Precinct 2 machine operator. He was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Belle Matthews, in 1989.

Mr. Matthews is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Johnny Matthews and Albert Matthews, both of Tatum, and Jimmy and Ann Matthews of Conroe; two grandchildren, Holly and her husband, Jon Buckholtz, of Conroe and Troy Matthews of Springs; two great-grandchildren, Victoria Matthews and Carter Buckholtz; a brother and sister-in-law, O.W. and Willard Matthews of Tatum; a sister, Ivy Dee Bassett of Henderson; special friend and caregiver Sue Parkman of Tatum; a host of nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. today, Feb. 2, at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Jimerson Funeral Home. Mrs. Millican died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002 in a Tomball care facility. She was born June 20, 1906 and was a Baptist and a member of Eastern Star.

An entombment service for Alyne Millican, 95, of Tomball, formerly of Carthage, was held at 10 a.m. on January 31, 2002 at Restland Memorial Park.  The Rev. Sam Patterson will officiate.  Arrangements were under the direction of Jimerson Funeral Home of Carthage.  She died January 28, 2002 in the Tomball Care Facility.

Born June 20, 1906 in Brownwood, she was the daughter of Will J. and Mary Sarah Goyotte Crundwell.  She was married to the late A.Z. Millican and for approximately 45 years she lived in Fort Worth.  In 1978 her family moved to Carthage and since 1992 she had lived in Tomball.

She was an active member of Central Baptist Church until she moved to Tomball and a member of Eastern Star Chapter 747 in Carthage.  She was a loving mother and grandmother and everyone who knew her will miss her.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother William and sister Delphene.

Survivors include her daughter Naomi Funk of Houston; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

MOORE, William E.

Funeral services for William E. “Bubba” Moore, 54, of Marshall, were held January 27, 2002 at Morgan Funeral Home Chapel in Marshall.  The Rev. Eddie Nichols and the Rev. Betty Wills officiated.  Burial followed in Walnut Springs Cemetery in Panola County.  He died January 24, 2002 at his residence.

Born July 20, 1947 in Marshall, he was the son of C.W. and Alice Marie Briggs Moore.  He attended Marshall public schools and was retired from J.M. Security Services.  He married Sherry Allums on May 20, 1966 in Marshall and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era.  He had also served in the U.S. Army reserve.

Survivors include his wife Sherry Moore of Marshall; children David W. and Deloris Moore, Terry and Diana Moore and Evan Moore, all of Marshall and Jerry and Lisa Moore of Malakoff;  grandchildren Cody, Dillon, Ashley, Allison, Libby and Forrest Moore all of Marshall; brother and sister-in-law Gerald W. and Pat Moore of Marshall; a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers were Tim Riddle, Kevin Tabor, Royce Mc Carty, Bill Bob Stansbury, Michael Patterson, Bill Power, Darrell Riley and Michael Harper.  Honorary pallbearers were Moore’s sons, grandchildren and brother Dr. Valarie Allman.

O'BRIEN, Marvin L.

Services for Marvin L. O’Brien, 66, of Lake Cherokee will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at the Welch Funeral & Memorial Center Garden Court, 4619 Judson Road in Longview, with the Rev. Eugene Tolstedt officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mr. O’Brien was born Oct. 1, 1935, to William H.T. and Marvel Inez Nichols O’Brien in Sioux City, Iowa. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a retired aviation machinist. Mr. O’Brien was a Methodist and an avid fisherman and hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Marvel Inez O’Brien.

Mr. O’Brien is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beverly O’Brien; two sons, Bob O’Brien of Tatum and Bill O’Brien of Longview; one daughter, Rhonda Howard of Indiana; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom O’Brien of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Gerry O’Brien of Los Banos, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at the funeral and memorial center. Memorials may be made to Greater Hospice of Texas, Inc., P.O. Box 9725, Longview, TX 75608.

MARSHALL — Services for Onise Ava Harrison Sanders, 75, of Marshall are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at Morgan Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ron Segers will officiate. Interment will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery in Carthage. Mrs. Sanders died Thursday, Jan 17, 2002 in a Longview hospital. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today, Jan.18, 2002 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sanders was born on March 2, 1926 in Panola County, TX. She was the daughter of William Edward and Lela Clyde Breedlove Harrison. Onise married Jasper Jackson Sanders on Feb. 10, 1942 in Panola County, TX. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Elizabeth Sanders Bagwell, and a granddaughter, Stacy Leigh Lawhorn.

Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband, Jasper J. Sanders, of Marshall; daughter, Betty Jo Morgan; sons and daughter-in-law, Jack Norman Sanders, of Marshall and Johnny Wayne Sanders, Sr. and wife, of Marshall. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Johnny Wayne Sanders, Jr., Kay Sanders, Crystal Sanders, Brianna Bagwell, Ashley Phillips, Theresa Brown, Michael Duane Smith, Melody Sammons, and Jennifer Morgan and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Maxine and Jack Barnes, of Chandler, TX, Mildred Hodges and Callie Sanders,both of Carthage and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services fo JaLeena Sarae Hamilton, age 4, and JaLeesa Mona Smith, age 2, of Gary were held January 28, 2002 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in the Woods Post Office Community.

The Rev. Michael Darden offciated.  Arrangements were under the direction of Black's Carthage Funeral Home.  The girls died January 22, 2002 at their home.

JaLeena was born Jan. 20, 1998 in Palestine and was the daughter of LaRena Brown Smith and Charles Hamilton.  She attended Carthage Primary School.

JaLeesa was born August 15, 2000 in Marshall and was the daughter of LaRena Brown Smith and Albert Smith.

Survivors include their parents, LeRena Brown Smith of Carthage, Charles Hamilton of Center and Albert Smith of Center; three brothers Joshua Hamilton of Carthage, Charles Hamilton, Jr. of Lufkin and Tyrese Smith of Center; sisters JoshLynn Hamilton and Alberta Smith of Carthage, Sharonda and Annette Hamilton of Lufkin and Aleix Smith of Center; grandmothers Lizzie M. Calloway-Brown of Gary and Betsy Jackson of Center; grandfather Johnny Penson of Galveston and great-grarndmother Sallie Bryant Caoolway of Gary.

Also surviving the girls are their uncles Jesse Brown, Jr. of New Orlenad, Ernest A. Brown of Tucson, Arizona, Curtis, Mack and Jesse Ray Hamilton all of Center; Ivan Hamilton of Beaumont and Mackauthur Hamilton of Garrison; aunts Lona J. Francis of Houston, Mary Alice Moore of San Antonio, Laronda Shawn King, Delores Johnson, Alice Johnson and Carolyn Smith all of Center; also many cousins, great-uncles and aunts and many other relatives and friends.

TATUM, Paul

Funeral services for Paul Tatum, 47, of Henderson, husband of former Carthage resident Ruthie Clark Tatum, were held January 29, 2002 at Bryan Funeral Home Chapel in Henderson.  The Rev. James Tatum officiated.  Buried followed in Davis Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.  He died January 26, 2002 at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler.

Born July 8, 1954 in Henderson, he was the osn of Rev. Ray and Mildred Tatum and was a life time resident of Rusk County.  He was of the Baptist faith and drove the handicapped bus for Henderson schools and transportation.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Tatum.

Survivors include his wife Ruthie Clark Tatum of Henderson; step-daughter and son-in-law Tisha and Brandon Goff of Palestine; parents Rev. Ray and Mildred Tatum of Henderson; brother and sister-in-law Rev. James and Marti Tatum of Whitehouse; sister and brother-in-law Becky and Gary McMurray of Ardmore OK; brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Jennifer Tatum of Albuquerque NM; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Born September 30, 1926 in Vian OK she was the daughter of Delmar and Anna Mae VanDerheiden Thomas.  She attended Stillwell OK schools and married James Lee Wood on July 5, 1956 in Tellequah OK.  She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband James L. “Jim” Wood of Deberry; children Janice Sue Cutchall of DeRidder LA,. J.B. and Bridget Wood of Deberry, Francis and Conley Brown of Panola and Audrey and Donald Cooley of Mittie LA; grandchildren G. Lee Cutchall, J.R. Cutchall, Brittanie Wood, Ashley Guillory, Maranda Guillory, T.J. Gillory, Morgan Brown, Ashton Brown, Buck Cooley and Nikkie Cooley.

Also surviving Wood is her great grandchild Madison Savannah Cutchall; brothers and sisters Bill and Betty Thomas, Verdie and Jack Campbell, Dean and Wanda Thomas, Audrey and Willie Means and LD. And Glenda Thomas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Morgan Brown, J.R. Cutchall, Lee Cutchall, Mark Shadowens, Mike Shaowens, Justin Marcum, Jerry Wall and Ronald Tullis.
