The cemetery was established in 1883. This is a very well maintained cemetery and the Methodist Church on the

property was also well maintained with services held regularly. There was an area on the ground for meetings and

dinners. The activity in this area was surprising to us.

In "Martin Dial and Related Families" his birth date is listed as 4 Apr 1822.

RITES HELD FOR MISS ANN DIAL LOCAL PIONEER

Heart Attack Monday Evening Proved Fatal

The Eldorado Courier, Vol 38, No 39

Thursday, March 23, 1939

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, March 21, at 4 o'clock at the First Methodist church of Eldorado for

Miss Ann Dial, age 90 years, who succumbed to a heart attack at 8:45 pm Monday, March 20. The service was

conducted by Rev. Jno H Bridges, local Methodist pastor. Interment was made in Eldorado cemetery.

Pallbearers were T W Whaley, W E Joyner, T W Duffel, D L Jones, Ed Washburn, and R R Gribble. The flower

bearers were Mesdames A R Webb, L C Berry, C B Hale, E M Patterson, S H Minnick and L J Turnbough.

Miss Dial was born in Panola county, Texas, September 15, in 1848. She was a girl of thirteen at the outbreak of

the Civil War and remembers hearing the vicissitudes of that conflict discussed by homefolk and neighbors while it

was in progress, likewise the hardships of reconstruction days.

When Miss Ann, as she has always been known in Eldorado, was quite young the family moved to Gregg County,

TX, and a short time later to the small town of Revenna, in Fannin County, where she spent her school days and

young womanhood.

She had reached the age of 43 when she and her mother and twin brothers, George J and J M Dial, moved to Old

Greer county in Oklahoma territory, to the sparsely settled community of Eldorado, where she and her brothers

filed and proved up on a quarter section each. The land she filed on is now the home of W H Caldwell.

Soon after coming here she became a member of the Methodist church which was then housed in a rude wooden

building on the site of the Old Rock school building, which was located in what is now southwest Eldorado.

Miss Dial, who was the oldest of twelve children was also the oldest member of the Eldorado Methodist church, and

her devotion and loyalty was evidenced by her regular attendance during the forty-eight years she lived here,

walking the distance of one-half mile to and from the church much of the time until recent ill health made this

impossible.

She had enjoyed good health and had been quite active even during late years. Fourteen years ago she made a trip

through the Ozark mountains in Arkansas, which she considered one of the highlights of her life. As late as the past

January she went to Oklahoma City to visit a brother, Jim Dial, making the trip in a car.

Miss Dial was not only a pioneer in her own right, but a descendant from a long line of pioneers. Her grandfather

Dial was one of the signers of the Constitution of the State of Texas. One of her uncles was elected to the first Texas

legislature, but died before it convened. Several of her relatives served in the Mexican War, among whom were two

uncles who were captured and held in prison in Old Mexico for two years. Much of this time they were in a

dungeon.

She was next to the oldest resident in Eldorado.

She is survived by three brothers, J M Dial of Nacoma Park, Oklahoma; E N Dial of Hollis; George J Dial,

Eldorado; and three sister; Mrs. Kate Snyder, Ravenna, Texas; Mrs. Mary Amend, Antlers, Oklahoma; and Mrs.

Frank Welch, Altus; also a number of nephews and nieces.
