William Henry Pitts, W/M, born June 19, 1843  in AL and settled in the Antioch Community.  He later married Mahala J. Taylor.

W.L. Miller – Nannie R. Pitts – 18 Sep 1872 – C-215

Nancy Rebecca “Nannie Pitts, daughter of William Henry Pitts and Bettie Mitchell.  She was born May 23, 1852 in AL.  W.L. was born ca 1844 in GA.

They were listed on the 1880 Census (p 10) with four children.

J.H. Armstrong – M.E. Pitts – 01 Jan 1880 – D-298

J.H. Armstrong, son of James B. Armstrong, and Mary Elizabeth Pitts, dau of William W. Pitts.  On 1880 Census (p 103) living as newly weds in the house of his father.

W.H. Pitts – M.J. Taylor – 04 Jan 1883 – D-414

            William Henry Pitts W/M born June 19, 1843 in AL and Mahala J. Taylor

Born Aug 1853 in TX.  William Henry’s 1st wife Bettie Mitchell had died ca 1879.

Ben Jernigan – Dicy Pitts – 04 Aug 1887 – D-616

1900 Census (p 154) lists Ben Jernigan, B/M, age 40, born May 1860 in TX; his wife Julia A., age 25, born Feb 1875; children: daughter Ella, age 6, born Mar 1894; son Johnnie, age 4, born Feb 1896 and daughter Mary, age 10 months, born Jul 1899.  The census shows that Ben and Julia have been married seven years (ca 1893), that six children have been born of the marriage, but only three are still living.

1880 Census (p 10) Clem is listed in the home of his parents, Ervin and Amey Pitts.

Major Pitts – Lorana Hooker – 15 Feb 1882 – D-775

1900 Census (p 22) lists Major, B/M, age 46, born Oct 1853 in AL as were both his parents; his wife Luranie, age 41, born Oct 1858 in GA as were her parents; and their son Marvin, age 17, born Sep 1882 in TX.  The census shows Marvin as being the only child born to this marriage.

1900 Census (p 134) lists Clem, B/M, age 39, born Nov 1860 in AL as were both her parents, his wife Madge. age 34, born May 1866 in TX as were both her parents, son Memphis, age 14, born May 1886 and son Jerry, age 13 born Mar 1887

1900 Census (p 107) lists Sofrana Pitts living in the household of her mother Ann Jones.  Sofrana is listed as a B/F, age 22, born Oct 1877 in TX, her father born in TN and her mother born in MS, she was a widow with three children: daughter Cory Frazer, age 8, born Feb 1892; William Barber, age 4, born Sep 1895 and son Jury, age 11 months, born Jun 1899.

Quite possibly this is the Bettie Pitts listed on the 1880 Census (p 29) living in the household of her parents Joseph H. Pitts and Priscilla Fort.  She was four years old at that time.

J.A. Brevard – Fannie Pitts – 03 Feb 1897 – F-290

1880 Census (p 29) Fannie is listed in the household of her parents Joseph H. Pitts and Priscilla Fort.  She was 11 months old at that time.

T.W. Williamson – Mamie Pitts – 04 Dec 1900 – G-083

            Mamie is the daughter of William Henry Pitts and his first wife Bettie Mitchell.

Robert Holland – Mollie Pitts – 25 May 1901 – G-164

On 1880 Census (p 10) Mollie is shown with her parents Ervin and Amey Pitts. On the 1900 Census (p 101) she is shown as being divorced and the head of her own household.  She was born Jan 1866 in AL. Her children as listed were son Marion, born Jul 1883 in TX and daughter Luvenia, born Nov 1886 in TX.  The census shows that Mollie had given birth to five children, but only two were still living.  Living in the household with her was her mother, Amy Jones, who was born May 1840 in AL.  The census shows that Amy had given birth to nine children, six of whom were still living.

H.R. Pitts – Cora Williamson – 06 Nov 1901 – G-218

On 1900 Census (p 37) Henry Randolph was still living in the household of his father, William Henry Pitts, and his stepmother Mahala Taylor. Henry was born Jan 1875 in TX.  Cora was living in the household of her mother Martha Wooten (p 128), the only one of her mother’s two children that was still living.  Cora was born May 1881 in TX.

Hannah is shown on the 1900 Census (p 100) as being a B/F 26 years old, born May 1874 in AL as were both her parents, divorced, with a son Asa Pitts, age 8

Marion Pitts – Dora Wells – 24 Dec 1903 – G-536

On the 1900 Census (p 101) Mollie Pitts is shown as being divorced and the head of her own household.  She was born Jan 1866 in AL. Her children as listed were son Marion, born Jul 1883 in TX and daughter Luvenia, born Nov 1886 in TX. Dora is shown (p 111) living in the household of James Brown.  She was born Dec 1883 in TX.

            Both are buried in Pierce Cem

W.B. (Walter Ben) Poss – Carrie Pitts – 01 Jan 1911 – I-285

Carrie was the daughter of William Henry Pitts and Mahala Jane Anderson and Walter Ben was the son of G. Edward Poss and E. Eliza per the 1900 Census.

            Both buried in Pierce Cemetery
