"George A Newton moved to Texas in 1846, settling in Larissa, whre he farmed all his life. Each of the children
was given a good education. He. served as Justice of the Peace and Tax Assessor for Chrolee County. He was
Representative in the 18th and 19th Legislature of Texas; Elder in the Presbyterian Church, helped establish
Larissa College ( now Trinity University) Waxahachie, Texas.
A deed dated July 20, 1860 (Bedford Co, pp 503-505) names George A. Newton of Cherokee Co Texas as executor
of the estate of John E. Newton, decd, Julia Murray, formerly Newton, of the Co of Rusk Texas, and Senah Newton,
wife of the late Ebenezer Newton, decd; Mary McCall, formerly Newton; James E. Newton; Sam M. Newton, and
Sena Daniels, formerly Newton; all of Panola Co., Texas "being the heirs of the late Ebenezer Newton decd. and he
being the son of the late Rev George Newton decd of the County of Bedford, State of Tennessee...."

"Samuel M Newton was brought to Texas by his father in 1846, and was reared a farmer. After retaining his
majority he moved to Cherokee Co, where he was employed in farming and the drug business, and in 1862 enlisted
in Company D, Seventeenth Texas regiment. This regiment was captured at Arkansas Post, but Mr Newton
managed to escape and afterward joined Company B, Twenty-eighth regiment, Walker's division and fought at
Mansfield, Pleasant Hill, Jenkins' Ferry, and was at Hempstead, TX when peace was made. He returned to his old
home in Panola Co and in December 1866, married Kate Watson, daughter of William Watson of Kentucky.
Mr Newton remained in Panola until 1884, when he removed to Ravenna, Fannin Co, where is is now prosperously
engaged in milling, cotton ginning and farming. With his family he is a member of the Methodist Episcopal
church."
