When the Prairie View School District decided to incorporate in 1941, all board members present were invited to suggest a name for the new district. Ovie Eudale "Dale" Granger and Mrs. Winnie Lormand suggested Bridge City, in honor of Rainbow Bridge. Granger was also the janitor and bus driver for the district. The school district decided on the name Bridge City and thus the community became known as Bridge City due to the many bridges one had to cross to enter the town.
