McMullen County FlagMcMullen County employs a cream-colored standard which bears the inscription "McMullen" in brown, written in such manner as to create the impression of a mountain or hill. Set atop the U of the inscription is a green prickly pear cactus with three red flowers. To either side of the cactus are mesquite leaves. The four pads of the prickly pear represent the four Commissioner districts of the county. The three red blooms represent the Blessed Trinity. The mesquite leaves have 39 leaflets between them, representative of the books of the Old and New Testaments of the Protestant Bible. The flag also carries a cream cravat, or sash, bearing a brown cross for the county's Catholic heritage. Brief History McMullen County was created in 1858 from portions of Atascosa, Bexar and Live Oak Counties, but was not officially organized until 1877. Prior to 1877 all legal matters took place in neighboring Live Oak County. The county seat is located in Tilden. Marriages prior to 1877 will most likely be found in Live Oak County. McMullen County is still today primarily a ranching community My name is Marti Brown and I am the McMullen County Coordinator. This site is a proud part of the TXGenWeb and USGenWeb Project.
