J. S. Dugan

In the death of Sid Dugan, the county has not only lost one of its best citizens, but a most efficient officer. Like all brave men he was kind and considerate. His kindness to prisoners was another evidence of a true and chivalrous man. By nature he was quiet, generous, kind and tender. As an officer, he discharged his duty without fear or favor, as a citizen he was the embodiment of honor and honesty. His idea of justice and truth, was of the highest order. He was a man of motion and not of show. If he did a wrong, it was an error of the head and not of the heart. If he did injustice to anyone he was quick to make amends. He was devoted to his family. Ever faithful in the discharge of every duty, proving recreant to none. It can be said of Sid Dugan that he was one of natures true noble men. He never betrayed a friend, nor took advantage of an enemy. He scorned to do anything that had the slightest appearance of being small. He went to his death by no fault of his own but in the discharge of his duty as he saw it. No better, nor braver man has ever been called from earth than this heroic and fearless officer.
