Killing Near Avinger
Last Saturday afternoon John Holt shot a Mr. White through the heart with a shotgun causing death in a few moments. Holt was a tenant on the B. G. Adams place near Avinger which was owned by White and in some trouble over a settlement about a stove, White was shot in the heart and ran out of the house a few yards and fell dead.
Holt went off and was captured early Tuesday morning in the Liberty Hill settlement on the Jackson farm at the home of his father-in-law, Mr. Campbell.

A Card Of Thanks
Thursday, the 18th, Mrs. Vera Holt from Liberty, wife of John Holt, visited with her uncle and aunt, C. L. Campbell and wife at Clarks & Boice's Mill, while she was in Jefferson with her month-old babe, to visit her husband who is in jail waiting the November term of court. Mr. Holt being without means of support; went before the commissioners court and asked for their help. These good gentlemen presented her with a check for $15. Mr. and Mrs. Holt wish to express their thanks toward these good kind-hearted gentlemen. Mr. Holt thanked them and he hopes to some day to be able to show his appreciation.
Mrs. Holt has returned to the home of her father and stopped at Avinger to her little stepchildren at their grandparents, S. H. Moroney. Again thanking the commissioners court for their help.
Respectfully,
Mr. and Mrs. Holt
