Jim Hogg County was formed from Brooks and Duval counties on March 31, 1913 and organized on August 11, 1913. It was named in honor of James Stephen Hogg (1851-1906) who was the first native Texan to serve as Governor and was father of the Railroad Commission of Texas. Hebbronville is the county seat.
